Located in Downtown Los Angeles, the Dowtown Tai Chi Studio was founded by Christopher Nelson to promote the study and practice of the Yangjia Michuan form of Taijiquan. This form, whose name translates to the Hidden Tradition of the Yang Family style of Taijiquan ( or Tai Chi Chuan, depending on the transalation used) is one of the oldest, and least know form of Tai Chi.

Derived from the Chen Style of Tai Chi, it is supposed to be the original, secret, form of Yang Style Tai Chi, which is currently the most popular form in the US, popularized by past masters like C. C. Chen.

This form differs from other Tai Chi forms by its clear and effective martial arts roots. The slow and gentle movements of the form are transformed into effecient and effective self-defense moves. Each move can be tested for it's real-world application.

It is also rooted in traditional Taoist meditative practice. Energy work; sitting, standing, and moving meditation; breathing techniques; all are incorporated into the form and the warm-ups.

This makes for an impressively potent mix of gentle physical practice, self-defense training, and Taoist meditation.

The Downtown Tai Chi Studio, based in Los Angeles, likes to think of itself on the cutting edge of the East-West cultural divide as the acid bath of Western scientific thought is applied to the esoteric practices of Taoist internal alchemy. Others would call it boyish exhuberance. See for yourself.
